Dashboard
The Dashboard gives you an at-a-glance cost overview across every connected cloud provider — spend totals, trends, budget status, and top cost drivers, all in one place.
What the dashboard shows
When you open StackSpend, the Dashboard is the first thing you see. It pulls together cost data from all connected providers and surfaces the information you need to understand where your money is going — without having to dig into raw data yourself.
The Dashboard is a summary view. It is intentionally high-level: it tells you what is happening across your estate and flags areas that need attention. For deeper analysis, use the Data Explorer; for anomaly details, check the Inbox.
Cost summary cards
Three cards sit at the top of the Dashboard and provide an immediate read on your current spend position:
| Card | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Total spend (MTD) | Cumulative cost across all providers from the first of the current month to today. |
| Month-end forecast | Projected total for the full calendar month, based on current run-rate and historical patterns. |
| Period-over-period change | Percentage and absolute change versus the same period last month, colour-coded green (down) or red (up). |
Provider breakdown
The provider breakdown section shows how your month-to-date spend is distributed across connected providers. Each provider is shown with its total cost and percentage share of overall spend, ordered by spend descending so your highest-cost providers are always at the top.
Clicking a provider row takes you to that provider's detail view in the Data Explorer.
Spend trend chart
The time series chart shows daily spend aggregated across all providers. Use the time window selector to adjust the view:
| Window | Use case |
|---|---|
| 7 days | Spot short-term spikes or day-of-week patterns. |
| 30 days | Default view — see the current month's trend in context. |
| 90 days | Identify longer-term growth trends or the impact of cost-reduction efforts. |
Hovering over any point on the chart shows the exact spend for that day, broken down by provider.
Top cost drivers
Below the chart, StackSpend lists the highest-spend services and accounts for the current period. This lets you quickly identify which specific resources are driving the most cost without opening the Data Explorer.
Each row shows the service or account name, the provider it belongs to, its MTD spend, and its share of total spend. Rows link directly to the relevant view in the Data Explorer for further investigation.
Budget status
For every provider or service that has a budget configured, the Dashboard displays a traffic-light indicator showing how close you are to the budget threshold:
| Colour | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | On track — current spend is well within budget for the period. |
| Amber | Warning — spend is approaching the budget threshold. An alert may have been raised in the Inbox. |
| Red | Exceeded — spend has gone over budget. An alert will be active in the Inbox. |
To set or adjust budgets, go to Budgets.
Quick links
The Dashboard includes shortcut cards for the most common next steps:
- Providers — connect a new provider or review existing connections.
- Data Explorer — drill into costs by service, account, tag, or date range.
- Settings — manage notifications, team members, and billing preferences.
Sample data mode
If you have not yet connected any cloud providers, the Dashboard displays sample data so you can explore the interface before committing to an integration. A banner at the top of the page indicates that you are viewing sample data and provides a direct link to connect your first provider.
